Finding great deals on gumballs shipped directly to your door is a lot easier than you might think. Sams Club of all places actually has a large variety of gumballs to choose from on their website. When you only have a few vending machine locations this really is the best practice especially if you have a Sams Club in your town. No Shipping fees will be incurred.
However, when you are big you really want to go directly to the manufacturer or distributor of those products. That is where you will really start to save money.

Hello vending World. This has been a very long few weeks. A dear friend of mine who has served our country well has died at the age of 30. She served in Operation Iraqi Freedom with honors. Sharla ran a 50 cal machine gun from a Humvee in 2002. She out lasted many of her comrades who had died in battle. Sharla was lucky to return home and to be married and start a family. Sharla died last Tuesday night in her sleep and left behind 5 beautiful kids. Her and her husband Mike a dear friend of mine also ran a photography business. They had no life insurance. If anyone would like to donate for support anything would be appreciated. Thank you! Randall

Once you begin to see the coin’s filling up that coin bag of yours it is only natural to add more accounts to your gumball machine route. At first you are a bit skeptical on whether or not the vending business is going to work. It is the little milestones that get you really amped to keep vending. My first vending machine location was a candy crane machine. I placed it in the Broadway Discount center in Santa Maria California and boy was I in for a surprise. I let the machine soak for a six week service cycle and when I showed up to collect my jaw hit the floor. The machine was nearly empty. Kids were scraping the bottom of the crane for candy. I remember carrying the coin bucket out to my Isuzu Trooper to count the coin. My jaw hit the floor again. First location and first service I collected over $500 bucks in coin. To say the least I was addicted and had 15 locations more to visit.
What is a feeler machine you ask? A feeler machine is what I call a low end vending machine that is small and super easy to place because it is small. I have 20 of these machines and some are setup for bulk toys and sticker and others are just bulk candy like gumballs. These machines are almost always on a single pipe stand. These machines are great and they do fluctuate in numbers and I will tell you why in a bit.
Now what you do next is look for the money. Look for vending machine locations that bring in $60 dollars or more in revenue. The best thing to do when you find one of these machines is simply talk the location into more equipment. The more equipment the more money you generate. The feeler machine may live the rest of its life in that location. When you add equipment to the feeler location it is time to expand by finding another cheap feeler machine from craigslist or ebay.
I will post more on the subject tomorrow.

There are just some parts of the world that are so caked with vending machines you would never think there is any room for you in this type of market. Please do not get discouraged because that isn’t entirely true. However, before getting all entrepreneurial and start spending your hard earned cash please remember to do one thing. Research the area you plan to setup your vending machines. A few questions you should start out with are:
Are there any machines in my area at all?
Are there lots of machines in my area?
What Type of machines are in my area? Bulk racks? Triple Vend Candy machines? Three column sticker machines or spiral gumball machines?
These are the questions that you need to answer before you buy your vending machines because answers to the aforementioned questions may dictate your entry level machines to buy.
If there is a big bulk vending competitor in your area that is running hundreds upon hundreds of spiral gumball machines you noticed while performing your market research you can bet there is little room for someone else and there spiral gumball machines. Please do not get discouraged. Your best bet is to find a machine not in those locations and fill the empty spot with it.
With lots of spiral gumball machines in place in your area that means you should lean towards purchasing a 2” capsule machine or sticker machine to start out. Get it? Be sure to, “hit’em were they aint by offering a bouncy ball pinball machine, a sticker machine, or a weight scale. After doing this research your entry into the bulk vending world may be a little different then you imagined but it will make you successful.
This is really one of the big reasons those packages for $50,000 dollars do not work. They do not take into account the type of equipment you may be competing with in the field. If that means building your bulk vending route 1 machine and 1 location at a time because of competition in your area. This is really one of the biggest reasons why we should all be locating our vending equipment ourselves. We need to know this business inside and out. Happy Vending.
